Cottages In Bigbury

If you don’t fancy staying in one of the big and boisterous resort towns during your South Devon Holiday then Bigbury may be just what you’re looking for. Bigbury is a beautiful little village with a population of just over 500 and home to some of the nicest cottages in South Devon.

Why rent a cottage in Bigbury?

The village is a great place to stay for anyone who wants to boil their South Devon holiday down to the basics that made Britain great – a pub (the Royal Oak), a shop and a great restaurant (the nearby Oyster Shack fish restaurant). And it also has an excellent golf course if you’re keen to work on your swing, complete with stunning sea and country views.

While the pace of life may be a little slower, Bigbury is anything but boring. Sailing favourites Kingsbridge and Salcombe are less than five miles away, but it’s main attraction is South Devon’s largest sandy beach. Just a short drive away is the pristine countryside of Dartmoor National Park, funky, hippy Totnes and the bright and breezy family attractions of Torbay.

Visit Burgh Island

Cottages in Bigbury are also just a stone’s throw away from famous Burgh Island, which can be reached on foot at low tide from Bigbury-on-Sea, and by sea tractor the rest of the time. The island was once an inspiration for local crime author Agatha Christie, and has appeared on film and TV numerous times. The island even has its own Art Deco hotel, and The Pilchard Inn, a bar that was once the haunt of local smugglers and dates back to the 14th Century.

If you do one thing…
