While I live in Totnes, I don’t want to turn Cottages In South Devon into a Totnes appreciation society but it’s hard to avoid talking about some of the good things that go on here.
We’ve always been lucky in the food shops we have in town – Seeds Bakery, Riverford, Sacks, Greenlife and the regular markets (locals know to get there early on Saturday for the curries). But for a certifiable (sic) foodie such as myself it was pretty exciting when Totnes Good Food Sunday was launched in June 2010.
There are some really good restaurants in South Devon but we’re not spoilt for choice when it comes to food from around the world – it’s really refreshing to be able to get Masala Dosa cooked in front of you, or juicy, seared steak from the Argentine grill.
I could bang on about the chorizo wraps from Diablo Deli Foods (like Brindisa in Borough Market but without the hour long queue), or the seafood from Cockleshell Deli or the amazing olives from the Olive Branch, or dreamy cupcakes from Karen’s Cakes but I won’t.
The line up changes every month but regular stand out choices are the pretzels from Continental Crumbs and the Caribbean food from Fancy That – always winners for the Cottages In South Devon crew.
Totnes Good Food Sunday takes place on the third Sunday of every month.
